Maybe the headlights are blacked out so as not to blind other motorists?

/trying to be an optimist

I will never, ever understand tinted headlights. Or taillights, for that matter. I mean, yes I “understand” that it “looks cool” all “murdered out” but I prefer to, you know, “see and be seen” when driving at night.

The ultimate combo? Tinted headlights with HIDs. Like, I wanted brigher headlights so I put in HIDs and then tinted them because blackout, bro truck, bro. Throw on some chrome TruckNutz for good measure.

Wow! That’s a blast from the past.

I didn’t know GTS headlight covers were still a thing.

They snap on and off. Back in the late 80s and early 90s everyone was running around with them.

And no, we never took them off at night. That wouldn’t have been as “cool” lol.

Yup, I knew someone with a leased Subaru Legacy sedan a few years ago who went with murdered out head/tail lights and super tinted windows (including windshield). His dad is a cop so he could get away with the tints in NJ apparently. But he had to use the brightest HIDs he could find and could still barely see at night. I have no idea how that worked with the lease. Kid was a character!

Tinted windshield, good stuff. I guess with the lighting, it’s easy enough to switch back to stock. Or just buy the car at the end of the lease? Window tint can be taken off, but it kind of sucks to do, especially to EVERY window. Some people just don’t care though.

Well that was just the start of it. He had painted all of the interior trim and some custom body work too. I know at some point he made the argument "II am improving the car, Subaru should pay me at the end for the added value". This is when I stopped taking anything he said seriously haha. But yeah I imagine stuff is reversible with replacement parts.

Yeah, you can always “return a car to stock” in theory. The only friend I know whose car was leased, AND made modifications, planned all along to buy the car at the end. The lease I believe was in his parents’ name (this was in college) but he made the payments.

And yeah, LOL @ the “Subaru should pay me...” argument.

Leasing in general just seems rather silly to me. It is just a rental car at that point. Sure you get to be the first one to drive it but having restrictions is no bueno to me!

Personally, I agree. But for a lot of people, it simplifies the monthly cost of having a car. Like living in a managed community, you don’t really have to worry about much besides making the monthly payment. Not for everyone (especially readers of this site) but it has its upsides... saving money not really being one of them.
